Episode 6 / Everyday Mindfulness: MOTHERS

In honor of mothers everywhere…

Today’s Everyday Mindfulness practice explores a word that speaks deeply in any language: “Mother.”

As you listen, stay connected to the feelings, thoughts, and stories this word brings up for you. And let your curiosity expand into a larger sense of what “mother” means, to our shared and interwoven human past and to our dreams of the future.

Sit quietly as you reflect on this passage, letting your imagination expand – or simply continue whatever you’re doing with these words as companions, as long as what you’re doing (as always) doesn’t require your full attention.

Sensing your feelings, and your body’s awareness, of whatever it is you’re doing, is a way to deepen mindfulness practice. I hope this short passage guides that experience for you.

Here’s the article – and the math – behind that “500 billion mothers” reference.

And here’s the context on the “120 billion humans” citation. This too. Fascinating stuff.
